Personal Training in Al Quoz: Preparing for Your Assessment at The Locker

What to bring, what to wear and what actually happens when your first Project Reshape assessment runs at The Locker in Al Quoz.

Project Reshape6 min read

Short answer: bring training clothes, flat shoes, water and any medical information a coach should know about. Arrive a few minutes early, eat something light beforehand, and expect a conversation, a movement screen and some light loaded work rather than a test you can pass or fail. The Locker in Al Quoz is one of the two venues we use for assessments and equipment-led sessions.

Why Al Quoz works for a first session

Al Quoz sits centrally between the Marina side of the city and the Downtown and Business Bay corridor, which makes it a practical meeting point for clients who live in very different parts of Dubai. Using a properly equipped venue for the first session also means a coach can see how you handle real load rather than guessing from bodyweight movements alone.

What to bring

  • Training clothes you can move and hinge in comfortably.
  • Flat, stable shoes rather than soft running shoes.
  • Water and a small towel.
  • Any recent medical notes, scans or clinician advice that affects exercise.
  • A short list of your own goals and questions.

What the session covers

  • Your history. Previous training, injuries, surgeries, work hours, travel patterns and sleep. This shapes the plan more than any single measurement.
  • Your goal in concrete terms. Not just leaner or stronger, but what you want to be able to do and by when.
  • A movement screen. How you squat, hinge, press, pull and brace, and where range or control is limited.
  • Baseline measurements. The starting numbers we will re-check later so progress is measured rather than remembered.
  • Light loaded work. Enough to see technique under load, not enough to leave you sore for days.
  • The plan discussion. Recommended weekly frequency, where sessions would run and what a 12 to 16 week structure looks like for you.

Practical preparation

Eat a light meal one to two hours before and drink water through the day rather than all at once on arrival. Dubai heat makes hydration a genuine variable in how you perform and feel. If you take medication that affects heart rate or blood pressure, mention it at the start. If a clinician has advised you to avoid particular movements, bring that advice with you so the screen can be adjusted rather than improvised.

Details such as parking, the entrance to use and available facilities are sent with your booking confirmation, and you are welcome to ask any of those questions in advance. We do not own the venue, so the practical arrangements are confirmed per booking rather than published here.

What you leave with

A clear summary of your starting point, the movements to prioritise, the limitations to work around and a recommended training structure. Whether you train at home, in your building gym or at a venue, that structure is the same document your coach builds from.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the assessment held?

At The Locker in Al Quoz. We send the exact address, the entrance to use and parking guidance with your confirmation, because those details are easier to follow on the day than in an article.

Do I need to be fit before the assessment?

No. The session is designed to record where you are now. Arriving deconditioned, injured or returning after a long break is normal and changes nothing about how the assessment runs.

How long should I allow?

Allow around an hour, including the conversation at the start and the plan discussion at the end. Confirm the exact length when you book, as it varies with what we are assessing.

Is the assessment a sales meeting?

It is an assessment first. You leave with a clear picture of your starting point and a recommended structure. Whether you go on to book a programme is your decision, and there is no obligation.
