What to Expect From a Free Personal Training Assessment in Dubai

An assessment is where a programme is decided. Here is what a good one covers, what you should walk away with, and the warning signs of a sales meeting in disguise.

Short answer: a proper assessment spends more time on your history and movement than on selling. Expect a conversation about goals, health and schedule, a movement screen, baseline measurements, some light loaded work, and a clear recommendation at the end. You should leave understanding your starting point even if you never book a session.

The five parts of a useful assessment

  • History. Injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, previous training, sleep, travel and working hours.
  • Goal definition. Turning "get in shape" into something measurable, with a timeframe that is discussed rather than promised.
  • Movement screen. Squat, hinge, push, pull, carry and trunk control, plus any range limitations.
  • Baselines. Measurements and simple performance markers you can be re-tested against later.
  • Plan discussion. Weekly frequency, where training would happen, and what the first block would prioritise.

How to prepare

  • Wear training clothes and flat shoes.
  • Eat lightly one to two hours before and arrive hydrated.
  • Bring clinician advice or scans that affect exercise.
  • Know roughly what your week looks like for the next three months.
  • Write down the questions you want answered before you commit to anything.

Warning signs it is a sales meeting

  • You are asked to buy before anyone has watched you move.
  • A specific result is promised in a specific number of weeks.
  • The offer expires today.
  • No written summary or baseline is provided.
  • The coach who assesses you is not the coach who would train you, and nobody mentions it.

Why the baseline matters more than the first workout

Progress is only visible against a recorded starting point. Measurements, photographs in consistent conditions, and simple strength markers give you something objective to compare in six weeks, which is roughly when motivation dips and people start judging progress on how they feel on a single morning. Recording day one properly is the cheapest protection against that.

It is also worth setting expectations against general public health guidance rather than transformation marketing. The World Health Organization is clear that regular physical activity benefits health and that any amount is better than none, which is a far more useful frame for week one than a fixed promise about week twelve. Their physical activity fact sheet sets out the general recommendations.

What happens next

After the assessment you receive your summary and a recommended structure. If you decide to continue, we quote the programme in writing based on frequency, session length and location. If you decide not to, the assessment still leaves you with a usable picture of where you are starting from.

Frequently asked questions

Is the free assessment really free?

Yes. The initial assessment with Project Reshape carries no charge and no obligation to book a programme afterwards. If you are comparing providers, ask each one to confirm the same in writing.

Where does the assessment take place?

At your home, in your building gym where access allows, or at one of our venues, The Locker in Al Quoz or Wasl 51 in Al Wasl. Choose whichever is easiest for you.

Do I need medical clearance first?

If you have a diagnosed condition, are pregnant or postpartum, or a clinician has previously restricted your exercise, speak to them first and bring their guidance. Otherwise, tell the coach your history at the start and the session is adjusted accordingly.

What do I receive afterwards?

A summary of your starting point, the priorities we would work on, the constraints to train around and a recommended structure with frequency and location.
